Data Widget: remaining data · on the App Store
$1.99 one-time · no subscription
iOS 17.0 or later
Data Widget alternatives: what are your options?
The job is simple: know how much data is left before you run out. There are three common ways to do it on iPhone — and they differ in one key question: do they know your billing date?
Side by side
| Settings > Cellular | Carrier account apps | Data Widget | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Follows your billing date | No — counts since the last manual reset | Yes, but you sign in | Yes — you set the cycle; calibration confirms before saving |
| Account / login needed | No | Yes — carrier account | No — totals computed on-device |
| Remaining vs. pace at a glance | Used since reset only | Varies by carrier | Yes — remaining headline + calendar-pace arrow |
| Home Screen / Lock Screen / StandBy / Watch widgets | No | Varies by carrier | Yes — included, not an upgrade |
| Dual SIM / eSIM handling | Per-line listing only | Varies by carrier | Yes — combined, primary only, or split |
| Overage alerts (80% / 90% / out) | No | Sometimes, opt-in | Yes — once per tier each cycle |
| Price | Free (system) | Free (with account) | $1.99 once — no subscription, no ads |
When the free options are enough
- Settings > Cellular is fine if you rarely approach your cap and can reset the statistics on your billing date yourself. It won't tell you your pace, and it won't warn you.
- Your carrier's app is fine if you're comfortable signing in and the app shows remaining data for your plan. Many do; many also bury it behind account screens, and coverage/widgets vary by carrier.
Data Widget exists for the case where neither is enough: you want the remaining number against your cycle, on-device, glanceable from widgets, with alerts before the overage — for a one-time $1.99.
An honest note on accuracy
On-device totals can differ from Settings > Cellular because of VPN, Personal Hotspot, or carrier rounding. That's explained inside the app, and calibration lines the ledger up with the number on your bill. No tracker — including carrier apps — can see more than the device can count, and Data Widget doesn't pretend otherwise.
